Pen Pals
Abide in Love serves as pen pals to immigrants detained in local jails, establishing correspondence so they know they are not alone. To make this connection possible, Abide in Love deposits small amounts of funds into detainees’ accounts, enabling them to write, call, and maintain contact with both their pen pals and their family members.
Care Packages
Whenever possible, Abide in Love provides care packages or commissary support, depending on the rules of each facility. When permitted, we assemble and distribute ready-made packages for individuals newly detained. In facilities where care packages are restricted, Abide in Love makes small deposits into detainees’ commissary accounts so they can purchase basic necessities for themselves.
Connection
At the heart of Abide in Love’s work is connection. We begin by listening to immigrants’ stories, needs, and concerns. Then, we help individuals stay connected to their families and we work to link them with the people, organizations, and resources best suited to support them. Abide in Love practices accompaniment rooted in trust and relationship. Our goal is to help connection take shape where it is most needed.
