Rolla, Missouri (Phelps Co.)
Abide in Love Rolla is the founding community of Abide in Love and remains rooted in care for immigrants detained in the Phelps County Jail. Our work began in response to the death of Brayan Garzón-Rayo, who died while held in custody in our Phelps County—a moment that called our community to witness, accompaniment, and sustained action.
Today, Abide in Love Rolla serves as pen pals to individuals detained in Phelps County, provides care packages, and offers support to families navigating detention, separation, and uncertainty. The care package and pen-pal systems now used across Abide in Love affiliates were first developed here, in response to local need and lived relationship.
While our primary focus remains Phelps County, Abide in Love Rolla also serves as the organizational home of Abide in Love. Our executive board provides guidance, infrastructure, and support to affiliates in other counties and states, helping extend this work while remaining grounded in the values and practices that shaped our beginnings.
