Our Mission
Abide in Love accompanies immigrants impacted by detention and family separation through practices of nonviolent love, offering connection, care, and practical support while empowering local communities to respond with dignity, compassion, and shared responsibility. Founded in Rolla, Missouri. 501(c)(3)
-
Abide in Love serves as pen pals to immigrants detained in local jails, offering consistent presence and human connection in places often marked by isolation and fear. We identify individuals being held in ICE custody and establish correspondence so they know they are not alone.
-
Abide in Love provides care and comfort to immigrants entering detention through thoughtfully prepared care packages or commissary support, depending on the rules of each facility. When permitted, we assemble and distribute ready-made packages for individuals newly detained, offering essential items and a tangible sign of care at a moment of deep uncertainty.
-
At the heart of Abide in Love’s work is connection. We begin by listening—honoring immigrants’ stories, needs, and concerns with care and respect. From there, we help individuals stay connected to their families and work to link them with the people, organizations, and resources best suited to support them.
-
Some Abide in Love affiliates provide grocery support to families whose loved ones have been detained, helping ease the immediate burden of food insecurity—especially for children and households already facing financial hardship. These efforts are shaped by local relationships and offered with care, ensuring families have access to the nourishment they need during times of disruption and uncertainty.
-
Abide in Love tracks detainees across our network so that, even as individuals are transferred between facilities, they are not lost to silence or separation. When movement occurs, we work to maintain lines of communication—helping individuals stay connected with their families and ensuring that care and correspondence can continue without interruption.
