Largest ICE Detention in MO: Greene County Jail

Greene County Jail in Springfield holds more people for ICE than any other facility in Missouri.

Since September 2025, more than 4,000 people have been detained there for ICE. Their stays can range from less than one day to more than a year.

In early June 2026, the number of people held for ICE fell below 200. By mid-August, it reached 426 people—more than double the early-June population.

In July, records also showed that more than 50 cells used to hold ICE detainees were overcrowded.

These 4000 people, it’s not just a number. It represents more people held in detention, often far from home and loved ones.
